【摘要】:Formanymaterials,thewatercontentisoneofthemostsignificantindexpropertiesusedinestablishingacorrelationbetweensoilbehavioranditsindexproperties.Thewatercontentofamaterialisusedinexpressingthephaserelationshipsofair,water,andsolidsinagivenvolumeofmaterial.Infine-grained(cohesive)soils,theconsistencyofagivensoiltypedependsonitswatercontent.Thewatercontentofasoil,alongwithitsliquidandplasticlimitsasdeterminedbyTestMethodD4318,isusedtoexpressitsrelativeconsistencyorliquidityindex.Note28212;Thequalityoftheresultproducedbythisstandardisdependentonthecompetenceofthepersonnelperformingit,andthesuitabilityoftheequipmentandfacilitiesused.AgenciesthatmeetthecriteriaofPracticeD3740aregenerallyconsideredcapableofcompetentandobjectivetesting/sampling/inspection/etc.UsersofthisstandardarecautionedthatcompliancewithPracticeD3740doesnotinitselfensurereliableresults.Reliableresultsdependonmanyfactors;PracticeD3740providesameansofevaluatingsomeofthosefactors.1.1Thesetestmethodscoverthelaboratorydeterminationofthewater(moisture)contentbymassofsoil,rock,andsimilarmaterialswherethereductioninmassbydryingisduetolossofwaterexceptasnotedin1.4,1.5,and1.7.Forsimplicity,thewordx201C;materialx201D;shallrefertosoil,rockoraggregatewhicheverismostapplicable.1.2Somedisciplines,suchassoilscience,needtodeterminewatercontentonthebasisofvolume.Suchdeterminationsarebeyondthescopeofthistestmethod.1.3Thewatercontentofamaterialisdefinedin3.2.1.1.4Thetermx201C;solidmaterialx201D;asusedingeotechnicalengineeringistypicallyassumedtomeannaturallyoccurringmineralparticlesofsoilandrockthatarenotreadilysolubleinwater.Therefore,thewatercontentofmaterialscontainingextraneousmatter(suchascementetc.)mayrequirespecialtreatmentoraqualifieddefinitionofwatercontent.Inaddition,someorganicmaterialsmaybedecomposedbyovendryingatthestandarddryingtemperatureforthismethod(110x00B0;C).Materialscontaininggypsum(calciumsulfatedihydrate)orothercompoundshavingsignificantamountsofhydratedwatermaypresentaspecialproblemasthismaterialslowlydehydratesatthestandarddryingtemperature(110x00B0;C)andatverylowrelativehumidity,formingacompound(suchascalciumsulfatehemihydrate)thatisnotnormallypresentinnaturalmaterialsexceptinsomedesertsoils.Inordertoreducethedegreeofdehydrationofgypsuminthosematerialscontaininggypsumortoreducedecompositioninhighly/fibrousorganicsoils,itmaybedesirabletodrythematerialsat60x00B0;Corinadesiccatoratroomtemperature.Thus,whenadryingtemperatureisusedwhichisdifferentfromthestandarddryingtemperatureasdefinedbythistestmethod,theresultingwatercontentmaybedifferentfromthestandardwatercontentdeterminedatthestandarddryingtemperatureof110x00B0;C.Note18212;......
